« Nous partîmes pour aller chercher cette manne spirituelle »

Les Psaumes dans les pérégrinations féminines au lendemain de la révocation de l’édit de Nantes

Inès Kirschleger

Abstract

This article examines women’s exile and persecution narratives from the time following the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes ; it focuses on those of Marie Du Bois, Suzanne de Robillard, Jeanne Faïsses, Anne de Chauffepié, Marie de Sers, Blanche Gamond, and Marie Molinier. Rare in number and for some still unknown, these texts lift the veil on an entire world of tears and sufferings which their authors sometimes describe in great detail. Above all, they show the extent to which these women were nourished by biblical culture, and by the Psalms in particular, and how, in the very midst of their chaotic journeys and dangerous travels, they succeeded in finding the weapons of their spiritual resistance in the words, images, and metaphors of the Bible.
