The five volumes of Dürrenmatt’s Stoffe-Projekt, published in 2021, constitue an enormous literary laboratory (30,000 pages in the archives) on which Dürrenmatt worked during more than twenty years, until his death. The writer and thinker articulates in it a sort of intellectual autobiography, without ignoring the difficulties of such an enterprise. Personal memories, philosophical considerations are juxtaposed alongside older literary materials of which he was still fond and which he was rewriting and assessing anew in light of their significance for his work and in relation to their existential and human value.
