Bringing Creation Back to Earth
For a Normative Ecotheology
Abstract
Creation is the privileged topic in ecotheology. This article discusses a new ethical theoretical framework to approach it, with the aim of exemplifying a normative ecotheology. Two imperatives guide the proposal. The first one is materialistic, and the second one is ethical. I will reason in three parts. First, I will put Creation back on Earth, as it were, by presenting two elements that highlight its current state. Then the critical neo-materialist reflection of the philosopher Bruno Latour help sketches the contours of the theoretical framework. Finally, two hermeneutical propositions related to the covenant and the incarnation close the article before concluding remarks on the notion of normative ecotheology.
