Voix divines en Mésopotamie ancienne
Abstract
In the ancient Mesopotamia, meeting the god(s) involved all the human senses. Hearing plays a great part in the Akkadian or Sumerian literature, especially when it is understood as the voice of a divine entity. The present article will focus on three aspects: the voice of the stormgod Adad and how it is interpreted in divination; the voice of demon created from a musical instrument played during an exorcistic ritual; and finally, and in a specific context, the whisper of the priest which will breathe life into a cultic statue or an animal.
